Cairo has to offer more than graves, which have looked back for 50 centuries:
Besides unbelievable works of art from the antiquity, lures this pulsating,
chaotic and at the same time modern metropolis her way, with sacred buildings of
Islamic and Coptic tradition. One can absolutely describe a walk by the old town
as a 'time travel on foot’, which confronts travelers with the different facets
of the everyday life. Impressive icons have been primarily the alabaster mosque
in the citadel of Cairo and theAhmed-ibn Tulun mosque built on 879. This is the
largest mosque of Cairo and worldwide is only towered a by the mosque Hassan II
in Casablanca and the shrine of Mecca.
Museums
Cairo is famous for its worldwide known museums. The best-known museum is
surely the Egyptian museum in which 250.000 items from the old days can gaze
your admiration. The grave treasures of the most famous Pharaoh Tutankhamen fill
almost a whole level of the museum.
The stroll goes also along one of the bazaars, thick scattered in Cairo; besides
traditional leatherwork brassware and hand tailored clothes are offered for sale
near the Khan El Khalili bazaar.
The
sphinx,
lies directly at the valley temple of Pharaoh Chephren and belongs to the
pyramid complex of Chephren. The sphinx was related in the new empire to the sun
god. It was the guardian of the necropolis. The Egyptians admired into as a God,
which caused of course nationwide pilgrimages. One knows e.g. from Ancient
Egyptian legends that a lion had the task of guarding sacred places. Therefore
also says the sphinx: "I protect your grave, guard your burial chamber, i keep
foreigners in a distance and drive the thieves away.
Hundreds of mosques
like to a mosaic, the urban Cairo consist of a variety of historical
buildings. Under the more hundred mosques count the Ibn-Tulun mosque from the
9th century as well as the Azharund Al Hakims mosques built in the 10th century
and one of the best known ones undoubtedly. It is thanks to sultan Salah ad Din
that the citadel was built in the eastern part of the town on a hill at 1176.
The decorated buildings are an integral part of the silhouette of Cairo today.
Of the two mosques in the citadel, the Mohammed-Ali mosque stands out
considerably by its multistory domes and a double minaret and contributes to the
town’s exotic flair with two of the famous "one thousand minarets".
One of the Seven Wonders of the World near Cairo
the pyramids are not only regarded as a historical legend. They are also
considered as an architectural wonder of humanity. They are regarded as the last
one of the Seven Wonders of the World. After the first discovery of the
inheritance of the Pharaohs was made , the 4.500 years old pyramids of Giza came
out, the graves of the Pharaoh Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos. The ensemble, the
last one of the Seven Wonders of the World still decorates often book titles and
postcards but gives a warm feeling to the ones they see it with their own eyes.
The combination of the 15 kilometers view of near metropolis Cairo on one side
and the Libyan Desert on the other side is a contrast, which stands alone. The
tall sphinx of Giza, which belongs, with her height of 20 meters to the most
famous and great of the world may never be forgotten.
Sun skiff of Cheops
a little museum that exhibits the famous sun skiff of Cheops, as a great
attraction, stands in front of Cheops Pyramid. This sun skiff (or also sun ship)
was found on 1954 on the southern side of Cheops Pyramid. The sun skiff consists
of cedar wood and has everything a ship needs: Oars, ropes, a complete
compartment with seats etc.. When it was found, consisted of 1224 components,
though. The researchers with difficulty had to put it together again, after
years of work.
The cedar wood remained so well unchanged since it was locked air tightly almost
5.000 years. The sun skiff was, in the hereafter, at the king's disposal for his
day and night traveling to the Ra, the sun god.
Still very much more has to offer Cairo and because of this, you should at least
have been once in the life here.
